about

In July of 1999, Stockhausen Syndrome played our first-ever show. We just didn't know it at the time. Fortunately, it was recorded.

Dave and Page were asked to play one night of Dave Storr's long-running free improv series in Corvallis, OR, at the time hosted at the Bean Bag Cafe. Dave asked drummer/DJ JD Monroe to fill out the trio. We were all friends. but had never played together as a unit before.

The single "rehearsal" for the gig was the 3 of us playing records for each other, Squarepusher, DJ Shadow, DJ Spooky, Aphex Twin and Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi band were all on the playlist, among others.

We packed the tiny coffee-shop with a ridiculous amount of gear, and had the foresight to set up a DAT deck and a couple of mics to record the proceedings, and went on to improvise for several hours to a small, but enthusiastic audience.

At the end of the night, we all said we really needed to this again, there was some real chemistry in this group. It just took most of 2 decades before we finally got around to making it happen.
